About the agency

The Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science

The Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science is an Agency under the Ministry of Higher Education and Science.

Because knowledge shapes the future, the Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science aims to create added value in society through first-class educational and research provision. To put it simply, we strive continually to improve Danish research and knowledge‑based innovation, and to contribute to the ongoing quality development of higher education programmes in Denmark.

We are responsible – both nationally and internationally – for a broad range of tasks connected with the administration of the legal framework, and the state appropriations for research, higher education, knowledge‑based innovation, and the Danish State Educational Grant (SU). We also contribute to the ongoing operation, governance, and supervision of educational institutions within the remit of the Ministry.

The Agency also serves as the national space authority, responsible for regulating Danish activities in outer space. As of 1 May 2026, the disbursement of State Educational Grants (SU), transport subsidies, and the State Educational Support for Adults (SVU) will be transferred to the ATP Lifelong Pensions company.

The Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science has three core tasks:

  • We assist the Minister and the government in developing educational, research, and innovation policy.
  • We implement the government’s policy in the areas of education, research, and innovation,
  • We create added value through our high standards of operational efficiency.

About the Agency

  • The Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science was established on 1 October 2020.
