Higher education programmes in Denmark build on upper secondary education or vocational education and training. They are offered by universities, university colleges, business academies, institutions in architecture and art and maritime educational institutions. 

There are different types and levels of higher education programmes. A major reform process is currently under way, affecting the entire higher education sector with the exception of maritime education programmes. 

Most of the higher education institutions are regulated by the Ministry of Higher Education and Science.
