ESS is the world’s first climate-neutral research facility
The chosen energy solution will reduce the annual CO2 emissions with 165,000 tonnes compared to a conventional energy solution
The waste heat will be recycled in the district-heating system in Lund and heat up the equivalent of about 10,000 detached houses.
Dimension and volume
Total length of the facility: 650 metres (hereof 500 metres will be under ground)
The size of the three experimental halls corresponds to the size of three football fields
Total area: 65,000 m2
Total volume: 400,000 m3
Construction of the facility involves 50,000 m3 of concrete, 6,000 tonnes rebar, 40 kilometres of pipes for distribution of cooling, air, etc., 2,000 kilometres of cables
